Jac Has Decent Showing At Derby Debut

Jac had a tough first round with only 8 home runs and SO many ground balls. He did end up only missing the second round by 2 home runs and also hit one 477 feet to the third deck

I saw him practicing a day before the derby with his dad and noticed his dad was basically throwing him fastballs. Not major league fastballs but straight and fast-ish pitches as opposed to a typical lob you might be accustom to seeing at a past Derby. At first I thought this might be really helpful as it more closely emulates pitches he’s used to seeing on a day to day basis. But context is everything and after watching his performance, it seems clear that lobs are the way to go.

With the “fastballs” being thrown, Jac had less time to determine whether a pitch was good enough to hit or not and considering his dad threw quite a few up and in, it really ended up hurting him.

Regardless I’m proud of Jac, i’m glad he got to share a special moment with his dad, and I’m sure he’ll be back and probably win it someday.
